On November 1, 1992, Little Rock Baptist Church (LRBC) held its first worship service, thanks to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. This church was formed by a small group that stepped out on faith after months of Bible Study in the Pastor's home. The group made a commitment to carry out that great commission given in Matthew 28:19-20 "…to spread the gospel in the world".
Blessed by obtaining this location, it was transformed from a mere alarm shop to a Holy Sanctuary within three days. This would have been impossible without the prayers and work of special friends and the nine members that joined on that first Sunday morning.
Of the nine charter members that joined on that first Sunday Service, we would like to recognize the four that are still here at Little Rock: Deacon Nat Turner, Deaconess Rosa Noel, Sister Ann (Davis) Burley and Sister Debra (Davis) Hanible.
For the next four and one half years under the leadership of the
Founder and Late Pastor Wilford O. Noel, Sr.,
The Little Rock Baptist Church Family accomplished many things for the Lord.
The Church under Pastor Noel held Bible Study, attended the Central Union Mission, held
services at the Bradford Oak Nursing Home, men and women's fellowships, fall and spring
revivals, Youth Sundays, Vacation Bible School, food drives and assisted needy families.
LRBC also held Toastmaster classes, ordained three Deacons and one Minister, baptized believers and
maintained regular fellowship with sister churches. Pastor Noel labored in love at Little
Rock and when his work was done, God called him from Labor to Reward on March 29, 1997.
His memory remains with us, his foundation is firm and we are left to build and carry out the
"Great Commission."
Supported by our sister churches, the spirits of Little Rock members were encouraged
and uplifted by the Word of God. After a six-month mourning period Rev. James A. Smith was
asked to be the interim pastor for a year, beginning in October of 1997. As he preached the
Word of
God, the church continued in the established ministries, such as the men and women fellowship,
Bible Study, Vacation Bible School and Fall and Spring Revivals. We have sponsored a Ski Trip
for our youth, and held Youth Revivals where youth were blessed in dance, comedy,
songs, and preaching. We also held our first Church Community Day, there were games,
food and activities for the youth. The PG County Police Department volunteered to do
fingerprinting and gave lectures on different programs such as the D.A.R.E. We passed out
flyers in the neighboring community to announce our Comunity Day activities and the neighbors
were very receptive.
On October 24, 1998, Rev. James A. Smith was installed as Pastor of Little Rock Baptist
Church. Rev. Thomas from the New Psalmist Baptist Church of Baltimore delivered a
heartrending message on "The Mission of the Pastorate." He reminded us of our upcoming
responsibilities and Pastor Smith capped it off by saying the sum of his mission is what the
church was founded on "The Great Commission" spreading the gospel
of Jesus Christ.
On December 24, 2000, Rev. James A. Smith resigned as Pastor of Little Rock Baptist Church.
While in the process of looking for another Pastor, Rev. Daniel Reeves, served as Interim Pastor.
On August 12, 2001, Rev. Daniel Reeves was elected as the new Pastor of Little Rock and was officially installed as the Pastor on November 17, 2001.
During 2001: Little Rock has held serveral special services: On March 18th,
a service was held to recognize Sister Pearl Wyatt as the Mother of the Church; On April 15th, (Easter Sunday), a special service to Dedicate the Children was held; Services were held every second Sunday at Bradford Oaks Nursing Home; and Outreach services were held at Forest Creek Apartment Complex.
During 2002: The Ushers held their First Anniversary Program in June; Brothers Hubert Turner and Melvin Wiggins were bought before the church to become Deacons of Little Rock; two Financial Aid Workshops and a Leadership Workshop were held. On August 2, 2002, God called one of our founding members the late Sister Helen Mackey from Labor to Reward. We were blessed to add a Teen/Young Adult choir on the third Sunday of October 2002, and we have had several people to accept Christ and became members of Little Rock.
During 2003: Brother Wilford Noel, Jr. was bought before the church to become a Deacon and Sisters Stephanie Noel and Pathenia Wiggins were bought before the church to become Deaconess. A Teen/Young Adult Bible School class was established under the leadership of Sister Crystal Blue. Several new members joined LRBC, and many were baptized. Our second Community Day activities were held in August.
During 2004: The women held a prayer breakfast in February, Minister Sedric Reeves held his initial sermon in March, Brother Wilford Noel, Jr. was appointed Sunday School Superintendent in July, and Reverend Reginald Farmer joined the ministerial staff in September. The Teen/Young Adult Bible Study class has grown and was separated into two groups, and we were blessed to add Youth and Pre-School Bible Study classes. LRBC has held Church Growth seminars and training. Several Dedication Services were held to dedicate babies and young children back to God.
During 2005: Little Rock hosted the United Baptist College and Seminary (UBCS), Southern District Extension School's winter/spring semester. Our Youth Choir was named The Singing Angels and we were blessed to add to our Deacon and Deaconess Boards Brother Clifford Stone and Sister Hazel Stone. After obtaining our first baptism pool, we were pleased to perform our first baptism here at LRBC in December.
During 2006: LRBC's Praise Angels ministry was instituted in April-and we were blessed with their first performance on Easter Sunday. Our first Missionary Ministry Service was also held in April. Little Rock hosted the 1st Youth Gospel Explosion in July. To enhance the baptism services held at Little Rock, an emblematic mural was donated.
During 2007: In February, Brother Melvin Wiggins was ordained as a Deacon at Little Rock. Stepping out on faith, we purchased these two buildings in March from Mr. William Bradley who had been our landlord. And in April, Little Rock was blessed with a First Lady when Pastor Daniel Reeves and Sister Barbara Reeves remarried.
We give special thanks to our musician Brother Rufus Carter, who has supported the choir since two months after the church was established. He has faithfully worked and expanded service to the Adult Choir, the Men's Choir, the Women's Day Choir and the Youth Choir.
There are many working members but, Little Rock is unique because of the countless number of faithful friends that regularly support the Church in so many ways. To name names would be amiss; we would like to thank each and every friend and member for all their work and support. Continue to pray for Little Rock as we "Step Up a Little Higher for JESUS!"
